9 Steps To More Self Care
Deflateable, textiles, 3D printsKatja Berger & Verena Tscherner
2024 - 2026
These works have emerged from the collaboration between Verena Tscherner and Katja Berger. Each is based on a word from Charlie Chaplin’s speech
“When I began to love myself…,” which was inspired by a text by Kim McMillen.
SELF-AWARENESS, AUTHENTICITY, RESPECT, MATURITY, SIMPLICITY, SELF-LOVE, MODESTY, AWARENESS, WISDOM OF THE HEART.
Each of these words was individually recorded by Verena Tscherner, and a sound relief was created from them, which lies behind the respective sweaters as a 3D print.
The motifs in the series are based on drawings by Katja Berger. These were then cut out of iron-on transfer foil using a cutting plotter and subsequently ironed onto
each of the sweaters. As a whole, they were folded individually and placed in a vacuum bag, and then the air was taken from them,
and they were confined within this transparent display to their outer boundaries.
May the theme of self-care thus be carried forward to future generations.
